Home Upgrade Grant (HUG):
Your solution to a Warmer, Greener Home

Home Upgrade Grant

If you’re a homeowner or private renter in England and putting up with an outdated heating system or a lack of insulation, you could be paying more for your heating costs than you need to. That’s not to mention the excess carbon emissions your old and inefficient heating system may be sending out into the environment.

Fortunately, there’s good news. The Home Upgrade Grant (HUG) has been specifically designed to make more homes across the country more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly.

What is the Home Upgrade Grant (HUG)?

The Home Upgrade Grant, also known as HUG, is a government-backed scheme aimed at helping homeowners and private tenants improve the energy efficiency of their homes. The scheme particularly targets those homes that aren’t connected to the mains gas grid.
The scheme is driven by the government’s Local Authority Delivery (LAD) scheme and provides a number of ways to make homes more efficient and heating more affordable. Many of these homes have been overlooked in the past due to their off-grid status.

Who Qualifies For HUG?

HUG, while designed to help as many households as possible, isn’t a blanket solution for everybody. It’s a tailor-made scheme for:

Low income households:  Your combined annual household income must be under £30,000 (gross).

Homes Off the Gas Grid: The scheme predominantly targets homes that have no mains gas connection.

Homes With an EPC between D and G: Ensure that your home has an Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) rating ranging from D to G.

How Can HUG Benefit You?

If you qualify for the Home Upgrade Grant, you could get funding for part or all of the costs associated with making your home more energy-efficient. These improvements are designed to increase comfort while reducing your energy bills. Let’s take a look at the improvements available.
Loft Insulation: Prevent heat loss through your roof, ensuring a warmer interior during those chilly months.
Underfloor Insulation: Say goodbye to cold floors with efficient underfloor insulation. Wall Insulation: Enhance the overall insulation of your home, retaining warmth and ensuring comfort.
Solar PV: Harness the power of the sun to generate electricity, reducing your carbon footprint and energy bills.
Low Carbon Technologies: Embrace the future with low carbon tech solutions, a step towards a more sustainable living environment.

The Green Revolution and Home Efficiency

Making your home more efficient and sustainable isn’t just a trend, but a necessity for your future comfort and finances. Fuel poverty is on the rise and energy costs just keep climbing. Grants like HUG help people on low incomes and in less efficient homes to live in comfort for less.

What sets the HUG Scheme apart from other grants before it, is its focus on targeting homes that are often left out in the cold – those off the mains gas grid.
